My name is Gabie Kassier Cloete, and I am very excited to be starting a new chapter at the church with Crayon College. I have a BEd Foundation Phase degree which I obtained at the University of the Free State. My husband is a bioinformatician working at Roche and currently completing his PhD. Together we have three wonderful children – Heidi (7), Rudolph (6) and Sebastian (2) who will be joining me at Crayon College. I come from a rich Lutheran background. We used to attend the Lutheran church in Bethlehem – my father, Randolph Kassier, and sister, Ingrid van Sittert, are both Lutheran pastors – and the values I grew up with continue to shape my life and work today.
Crayon College began a few years ago with my children and my brother’s children on our family farm, and it has since grown into something truly special. Now, as we bring Crayon College 2.0 to Stellenbosch, I look forward to creating a safe, nurturing space where children can thrive. I will be teaching in English, Afrikaans and German, giving the children a wonderful foundation in languages. We already have 12 little ones enrolled, and I will be able to accommodate a maximum of 15 children. The school day will be from 8-12h30 in the mornings, Mondays to Thursdays.
Over the coming months, I will also be renovating the outside area to create a beautiful, lively playground full of life and learning opportunities. I will be painting and decorating the classroom to fulfil the educational needs of the children. It is my deepest joy to combine my passion for children’s development with the warm support of the church community.
