MONATSSPRUCH JUNI 2024
Mose sagte: Fürchtet euch nicht! Bleibt stehen und schaut zu, wie der HERR euch heute rettet! 2. Mose 14,13
WATCHWORD JUNE 2024
Moses said: Do not be afraid, stand firm, and see
the deliverance that the Lord will accomplish for you today. Exodus 14,13
BE STILL
Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.” (Exodus 14:13-14)
“Stand still.” I couldn’t tell you how many times I heard that as a child growing up. I also couldn’t tell you how many times I’ve said that to my own chil- dren. “Stand still” isn’t the easiest thing to do – it means doing nothing.
Ever found it difficult to just stand still in the middle of a hectic work- week? How about standing still when you feel like you are about to be over- whelmed with life? Have you tried standing still when life seems like it is crash- ing down around you?
The Israelites found themselves trapped between the Red Sea on one side, and Pharaoh’s army on the other. Things looked bleak – in fact, they complained to God and Moses, asking why they felt it necessary to lead them out into the de- sert to die when they could have just died in Egypt. Think they felt a bit over- whelmed, like their life was crashing down around them?
Our usual response in such a situation is to try and do something. What can I do to change this? What can I do to fix this? What can I do?
What did God tell them to do? Nothing. He said, “Be still.” That is a hard thing to do in the middle of everything. Why? Why would God tell them to “Be still?” “You will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today… The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
God’s promise to his people then is his promise to you today. “Be still,” even when things are bad and you can’t seem to keep your head above water. “Be still” in the middle of sorrow and anguish. Why? “You will see the deliverance the LORD will bring you today… The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”
The same God who showed his mighty power with the 10 plagues and the splitting of the Red Sea to deliver his people from Egypt is the same powerful God who promises to deliver you. The God who graciously fought for his people then; the same God who graciously sent his Son to fight and destroy sin and death and the devil is the same God who will graciously fight for us now.
What can you do? You can “be still.”
Prayer: Gracious Father, help me to stand still in the midst of sorrow and an- guish, trouble and despair. Let me see your gracious deliverance to- day. Amen.
