The Baroque Afternoon concert took place on 26 October 2025 in the Friedenskirche, Stellenbosch. There was a lot of interest. Many visitors came, including parishioners and guests. The music group StrykSaam arose from house music gatherings. Its members include both members and friends of the congregation as well as third parties. It spans at least two generations. The youngest member is still a schoolgirl. The programme featured music by composers from France, Germany and Italy. And, if you like, from England too. Handel came from Germany, but it was his time at the English royal court that established his fame. That is why England also considers him one of their own. However, music is an international language, the most international of all. Everyone can understand it, regardless of their country of origin, and it belongs to all people, not just the country of its origin. Martin Luther made music a particularly important part of church life. Here is an overview of the composers: Jean-Baptiste Lully, Jean-Philippe Rameau, George Frideric Handel, Johann David Heinichen, Georg Philipp Telemann, Antonio Vivaldi. It was not only a joy to hear the music itself, but also to watch the musicians. The enthusiasm with which they played, the joy in their faces at the music, which was also transmitted to the audience. Maren Stallmann, who often plays the organ in our parish, had the idea of inviting StrykSaam to the charity concert. Therefore, she deserves our thanks as much as the musicians, of whom she was one. Here is the list of performers:

RECORDER Jeanni Wiese;
FLUTE Nele Holm;
VIOLIN 1 Kaspar Holm, Olivia Wantenaar;
VIOLIN 2 Mikael von Eschwege, Eléna Monvoisin, Henning Holm;
VIOLA Mariette Schumann, Niels Holm;
CELLO Jakob Holm;
BASSOON Kornelius Holm; HARPSICHORD Maren Stallmann;
MUSICAL DIRECTION Julia HuberWarzecha

The concert ended with long applause. Most people stayed afterwards and took the opportunity to chat. It was a particularly enjoyable afternoon that will remain in our memories. Perhaps there will be a repeat performance next year? Many thanks to everyone, including those who contributed to the success of this afternoon in other ways. Each and every one of them gave up more than just a little of their free time to bring joy to others. That cannot be taken for granted. The proceeds went to the church as a donation.
